| POGGIO RASO TOWER | | Unfortunately there is no trace of the original square based tower, but the memory of its existence. It was in fact razed to the ground in recent times and then later rebuilt in a circular shape. In the plans in Leopold’s Land Register ( Catasto leopoldino), drawn up in 1824 by the land surveyor Luigi Banti, the toponym of the buiding is also traced, but not the tower: in the indicative tables there no sign of this. Poggio Raso (Poggio is a mount ) was an important place in ancient times as, according to Mazzolai, a tomb with tiled roof was discovered, containing, among the many objects, also two Spanish Kalathoi of about the 3rd or 2nd century b. C. 1. References 1 A. Mazzolai, Storia e Arte, cit., p.174. |
